Jealous of your childs Taggie Blanket?

Thanks to my daughters loving grandmother and other family members sewing away she had close to 10 Taggie blankets before she was even born.  My daughter loves her blankets and her grandmother even made her one that could cuddle up and stay warm with (yellow and gray blanket in picture) The blankets are super soft and comfy. I found myself jealous of my daughters blanket and wanted one for myself. At first I was going to just use the Minky fabric typically used for the blankets and leave off the tags. But, then I thought maybe I could cuddle up with my little one and give her something to entertain her, so I decided to add them. I made the green blanket in the picture above and we both love to cuddle with it.

Now that the temperature is starting to cool off outside I thought I would share in case anyone else wants to get inspired to make their own.

Supplies:

Scissors
Thread
2 yards of Minky Fabric (or fabric of your choice)
2 yards of Anti Pill Fleece (or fabric of your choice)
Several different (size, texture, color) ribbon scraps (about 4 inches long each)
Sewing pins

Directions:

1. Place the two pieces of fabric with the insides facing each other and try to line up the edges as close as you can.

2.  Now you should place and pin your ribbons where you want them to be on the blankets. The two edges of the ribbon tag should be at the edge of the blanket and the loop should should face the center of the blanket. Spacing can be measured or you can eyeball where you want them.

3. Next, you will sew around the entire blanket. Leave about a foot in length so that you can turn the blanket right side out.

4. Once the blanket is right side out and all the ribbons are showing. You can go around the edge of the blanket one more time to close off the foot of fabric you have yet to sew, and to ensure the ribbons are secure.

5. Done!

Tips: Minky fabric can be pricey ($14.99 a yard at Joann Fabrics) use coupons. Joann Fabrics will take competitor coupons and you can use as many coupons as you have items for.

Slumber Party Yarn Hair Doll From Oriental Trading Review and Giveaway

I really wanted to find a doll that would be age appropriate for my little one. I researched online and found several options.I stuck to searching for dolls with safe hair for her to run her fingers through and play with.

Some of my observations/thoughts from my research:

Cabbage Patch Babies Doll - (Avg cost $25)
  • Recommended for ages 3-5 years old
  • I was concerned size and weight might make it hard for my daughter to play/carry the doll
  • Dolls do not seem to have enough hair for her to play with
My First Doll by Carter's - (Avg cost $12)
  •  No age recommendation
  • My daughter had one of these from birth and she has lost interest in it (she loved it from 0-6 months old)
  •  Dolls hair is part of the fabric
Haba Doll - (Avg cost $35.99)
  • Recommended for ages 18m+
  • Doll is cute but cost more than I was hoping to spend
  • Lots of hair to play with
I finally found the Slumber Party Yarn Hair Dolls from Oriental trading. The dolls have a nylon stuffed body, which I love because I don't have to worry about my daughter hurting herself while playing with it. The dolls have sturdy yarn hair for my daughter to play with and are very reasonably prices at $15 for a set of 4. The dolls are recommended for ages 3 and up. Since my daughter is under 1 years old I just make sure to watch her when she plays with the doll and she has had no issues so far. I also see no potential choking hazards.

Do you think your little one would like one of these dolls? Here is your chance to win one: Giveaway ends 9/15/12 open to US residents only.

Nap Nanny Chill Review

Our daughter is 9 1/2 months and we are starting to transition her from the Nap Nanny Chill Recliner into her crib. Our daughter has been sleeping in the Nap Nanny since she was about 3 months old. This has been one of our favorite purchases for her and I don't know how we lived without it those first few months.

What is the Nap Nanny Chill Recliner

The Nap Nanny Chill is a recliner that allows the child to sit/sleep at a 30 degree angle. This is recommended for babies experiencing acid reflux (which our daughter has) and/or other sleep issues. The recliner is proven to increase sleep time on average by 3 to 4 hours.

At 3 months old our daughter would sleep for a maximum of 2 to 3 hours at a time, which made for many sleep interupted nights. I researched different options: medication, crib wedge.... I finally found an article in a parent magazine about the Nap Nanny Chill. At first I was hesitant because of the price. BabysRus Sells them for $109.00 to $129.00 depending on the cover style. But, we decided to give it a try and we are extremely happy that we did. Our daughter started sleeping an average of 6-8 hours straight in the recliner. I highly recommend this product to any parent that is battling acid reflux issues with their infant. I believe we have already gotten our moneys worth out of the Nap Nanny Chill and still plan to use it with our daughter through her toddler years (my nephew is 2 years old and likes to sit in the chair while watching cartoons). Our Nap Nanny Chill is still in great condition and I plan to use it in the future if we have another baby.

Complaints

Only complaint I have is that they don't sell them for adults! They look so comfortable.

  • Recommended for children 8 pounds +
  • Allows child to sleep at 30 degree angle

  • High density foam core
  • Fabric has an waterproof liner and is machine washable
  • Relciner weights 4 pounds
