Jealous of your childs Taggie Blanket?

Thanks to my daughters loving grandmother and other family members sewing away she had close to 10 Taggie blankets before she was even born.  My daughter loves her blankets and her grandmother even made her one that could cuddle up and stay warm with (yellow and gray blanket in picture) The blankets are super soft and comfy. I found myself jealous of my daughters blanket and wanted one for myself. At first I was going to just use the Minky fabric typically used for the blankets and leave off the tags. But, then I thought maybe I could cuddle up with my little one and give her something to entertain her, so I decided to add them. I made the green blanket in the picture above and we both love to cuddle with it.

Now that the temperature is starting to cool off outside I thought I would share in case anyone else wants to get inspired to make their own.

Supplies:

Scissors
Thread
2 yards of Minky Fabric (or fabric of your choice)
2 yards of Anti Pill Fleece (or fabric of your choice)
Several different (size, texture, color) ribbon scraps (about 4 inches long each)
Sewing pins

Directions:

1. Place the two pieces of fabric with the insides facing each other and try to line up the edges as close as you can.

2.  Now you should place and pin your ribbons where you want them to be on the blankets. The two edges of the ribbon tag should be at the edge of the blanket and the loop should should face the center of the blanket. Spacing can be measured or you can eyeball where you want them.

3. Next, you will sew around the entire blanket. Leave about a foot in length so that you can turn the blanket right side out.

4. Once the blanket is right side out and all the ribbons are showing. You can go around the edge of the blanket one more time to close off the foot of fabric you have yet to sew, and to ensure the ribbons are secure.

5. Done!

Tips: Minky fabric can be pricey ($14.99 a yard at Joann Fabrics) use coupons. Joann Fabrics will take competitor coupons and you can use as many coupons as you have items for.

Slumber Party Yarn Hair Doll From Oriental Trading Review and Giveaway

I really wanted to find a doll that would be age appropriate for my little one. I researched online and found several options.I stuck to searching for dolls with safe hair for her to run her fingers through and play with.

Some of my observations/thoughts from my research:

Cabbage Patch Babies Doll - (Avg cost $25)
  • Recommended for ages 3-5 years old
  • I was concerned size and weight might make it hard for my daughter to play/carry the doll
  • Dolls do not seem to have enough hair for her to play with
My First Doll by Carter's - (Avg cost $12)
  •  No age recommendation
  • My daughter had one of these from birth and she has lost interest in it (she loved it from 0-6 months old)
  •  Dolls hair is part of the fabric
Haba Doll - (Avg cost $35.99)
  • Recommended for ages 18m+
  • Doll is cute but cost more than I was hoping to spend
  • Lots of hair to play with
I finally found the Slumber Party Yarn Hair Dolls from Oriental trading. The dolls have a nylon stuffed body, which I love because I don't have to worry about my daughter hurting herself while playing with it. The dolls have sturdy yarn hair for my daughter to play with and are very reasonably prices at $15 for a set of 4. The dolls are recommended for ages 3 and up. Since my daughter is under 1 years old I just make sure to watch her when she plays with the doll and she has had no issues so far. I also see no potential choking hazards.

Do you think your little one would like one of these dolls? Here is your chance to win one: Giveaway ends 9/15/12 open to US residents only.

Nap Nanny Chill Review

Our daughter is 9 1/2 months and we are starting to transition her from the Nap Nanny Chill Recliner into her crib. Our daughter has been sleeping in the Nap Nanny since she was about 3 months old. This has been one of our favorite purchases for her and I don't know how we lived without it those first few months.

What is the Nap Nanny Chill Recliner

The Nap Nanny Chill is a recliner that allows the child to sit/sleep at a 30 degree angle. This is recommended for babies experiencing acid reflux (which our daughter has) and/or other sleep issues. The recliner is proven to increase sleep time on average by 3 to 4 hours.

At 3 months old our daughter would sleep for a maximum of 2 to 3 hours at a time, which made for many sleep interupted nights. I researched different options: medication, crib wedge.... I finally found an article in a parent magazine about the Nap Nanny Chill. At first I was hesitant because of the price. BabysRus Sells them for $109.00 to $129.00 depending on the cover style. But, we decided to give it a try and we are extremely happy that we did. Our daughter started sleeping an average of 6-8 hours straight in the recliner. I highly recommend this product to any parent that is battling acid reflux issues with their infant. I believe we have already gotten our moneys worth out of the Nap Nanny Chill and still plan to use it with our daughter through her toddler years (my nephew is 2 years old and likes to sit in the chair while watching cartoons). Our Nap Nanny Chill is still in great condition and I plan to use it in the future if we have another baby.

Complaints

Only complaint I have is that they don't sell them for adults! They look so comfortable.

Details
  • Recommended for children 8 pounds +
  • Allows child to sleep at 30 degree angle
  • Increases sleep time on average 3 to 4 hours
  • Has a 3 point safety harness to keep small children safe and secure
  • Harness can detach so toddlers can continue to utilize recliner
  • High density foam core
  • Fabric has an waterproof liner and is machine washable
  • Relciner weights 4 pounds
Styles

The Nap Nanny Chill is available in 3 colors of minky fabric (Sage, Blue, Pink), and  in Giraffe, Camel, and Lavender.

Disclaimer

I provided this review to share my experience with the Nap Nanny Chill Recliner. I did not receive any compensation (monetary/or free product) from the maker of the Nap Nanny Chill.

Thredup Order Experience

Recently, I posted that I found a new website called Thredup. I just received my order today and am thrilled with what I received.

Quality
When I first looked at the items on the website I thought that the clothing appeared to be in good used condition; and that Thredup offers a variety of name brand clothing at reasonable prices. One small concern I had was that some of the clothing looked to be wrinkled. I made the assumption that Thredup may sell items as they are received in order to reduce some of their costs.  The wrinkles did not bother me too much since I knew I would wash any items I received before having my daughter wear them. However, to my surprise when I received my order all items appeared to have been ironed and in better condition than online photos led me to believe.

Website
The website is user friendly. You can view all items or you can refine your search through filters (ex: boy/girl, and size). A cute feature that the site has is a stylish looks tab. Thredup has designers that create stylish looks from the items they receive for sale. A couple of the stylish look categories include: Smart Girls Rule, Brooklyn Preppy, and Active Apprentice. I really enjoyed this feature because you can find an entire outfit and dress your child from head to toe without having to have fashion knowledge.

Other comments
Processing time averaged about a week and I do plan to order from Thredup again in the future. The clothing items I received I believe are very reasonably priced (see list below for prices). But, what makes me even happier is that my order was of no cost to me since I used referral credits to purchase them.

What I got:
18 mo - Wishes & Kisses Dress w/ Short Sleeve Onesie   ($6.49)
18 mo - Hello Kitty Skirt  ($4.99)
18 mo - Gymboree Dress  ($8.99)
18 mo - Sesame Street Dress With Bloomers  ($6.49)
18 mo - Cherokee Pants   ($3.99)
12 mo - Starting Out Jeans  ($3.99)
12 mo - Nova Dress 12-18 Months  ($4.49)
12 mo - Youngland Dress   ($4.49)
12 mo - H&M Pants   ($3.99)

Thredup offers customers the opportunity to earn $10 referral credits for spreading the word about their site.  Your first opportunity to earn a $10 credit is to sign up for Thredup through someone’s referral link (click here to earn your first $10 credit). Once you have an account you can share your link and continue to earn $10 credits (You will receive your $10 referral credit after your friend/family member place their first order)

Be a Bridesmaid X 2 after having a baby!

I am flattered to have been asked to be a Bridesmaid in two of my friends wedding occurring in August and September of this year. However, what is torture? Having to do this after having my first child. My daughter is now 6 months old. I have been trying to loose weight in order to avoid being the "Chubby Bridesmaid." I'm sure I am not alone when I say it is hard to find the time and energy to workout with a new baby. I have attempted to workout and do Alli in order to loose some weight. I am close to my pre-pregnancy weight but, I needed to loose about 20lbs prior to getting pregnant. So I made what I feel is a crazy move today and purchased the Insanity Workout DVD collection. I am going to attempt the 60 day challenge! I should receive the dvd's next week and will update if I survive the first workout! Has any other moms out there attempted this post baby? I would love to hear about your experiences. Wish me luck!

Build Your Childrens Bookshelf, For Free!

I recently became a member of the Dorrance Book Review Team. As a member I receive free books to review from the Dorrance Publishing Book Store. I love that they allow their review team members to choose the books that they wish to review. Their book categories include: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Juvenile, and Poetry. The books are available in ebook format and paperback/hardcover.

Want to Join?
To join the review team all you have to do is visit http://www.dorrancebookstore.com/doborete.html and click on the link that says Join The Review Team. Once your email is reviewed you should receive a welcome email from Katie giving you your first code to obtain your free review book. I have tried to join several book review teams and this one I believe is the simplest and have better book choices.

So if you join the Book Review Team what do you have to do?
Once you receive your book you need to read it and post your review within 30 days. (Very important) If you fail to provide your review within the 30 day time frame or do not use your review code to order your book then you will be kicked off the review team. You can post your review to your blog, Amazon.com, BN.com, Borders.com, Goodreads.com, or several other choices. Once you post your review you just need to send an email to Dorrance Publishing stating that you gave your review and provide a link to it. For further more detailed information visit http://www.dorrancebookstore.com/doborete.html.

Suggestions on book choices:
Being a new mother I found that it is difficult to read a novel within the 30 day time frame which is how I discovered the Juvenille/Children's books. I am excited that I have an opportunity to build my daughters bookshelf for free! Tip: I believe the hardback children's books are a better quality so I look at the description to make sure I can get the book in hardback before I order.

My reviews
I have reviewed 3 books so far: "Don't Kill the Dead" by Vusi Gumbi, "Bengal and Sengal" by Ellie, and "The Lonely Penguin" by David C. Lee. My newest review book is, "The Little Guitar" by Eric Manos.

This book was my favorite so far. It has several great messages, the most prominent is to teach children about caring for their belongings and not damaging or discarding them. It is a very cute story about a boy that decides he wants to learn to play the guitar. His parents buy him the Little Guitar and for awhile he practices and tries to learn to play. He becomes frustrated and gives up. The guitar is stuck in a closet and then the attic until it is sold at a garage sale. An older man decides to purchase the Little Guitar and repair it so he can play it. The book ends with the old man and the guitar being happy together and making beautiful music.

Disclaimer: I provided this review because I am excited about the opportunity I have found through Dorrance Publishing. I was not asked to provide this review nor was I compensated.
